SANTA CLARA Already challenged in terms of a pass rush, the 49ers got some bad news Monday when it was learned Bryce Huff came out of a 20-10 win over Atlanta with a hamstring strain and will likely miss at least two games. Huff played 45 snaps against the Falcons and 69.2 percent of the plays. Both are his high-water marks for the season. But toward the end of the game, Huff apparently felt something was amiss.
The 4-2 49ers are broken. Fred Warner is gone for the season. So is Nick Bosa. Brock Purdy is still sidelined. Ricky Pearsall is, too. That's just a few of the many, many names. The Niners' defense is reeling, and the offense is sputtering. Now, the 3-2 Atlanta Falcons-a team that's won two straight-come to town with the NFL's scrimmage yards leader in Bijan Robinson and a quarterback in Michael Penix who isn't afraid to let it rip.
This week, they asked around about the defending champion Eagles' offense. How panicked is Philadelphia right now? Will the passing game start to click? Jeremy and Dan also checked in on the aftermath of the Titans firing coach Brian Callahan. Why was it done now, and what should we expect from Tennessee's upcoming coaching search? Then they broke down the 49ers' seemingly never-ending string of injuries and whether that might prompt them to be active at the trade deadline.
What probably would've been a game decided by two or three points now could be a lopsided victory for LA after it was announced that the Niners would be without Brock Purdy, Jauan Jennings, and Ricky Pearsall. San Fran will still have the services of Christian McCaffrey, but he alone will not be enough to secure a win for the 49ers. I also don't see how San Francisco will contain both Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.
