Dutch SURF realizes 400G network connection for scientific research
Briefly

SURF has successfully implemented the OpenZR+ network, enhancing connectivity between Groningen and Dwingeloo to 400G, increasing bandwidth significantly. This upgrade will empower astronomers using the LOFAR telescope by providing them with high-quality and detailed space images. SURF collaborated with ASTRON to realize this advancement, which utilizes 400G-ZR optics for a more efficient network. The new connection facilitates simultaneous signal handling, allowing quicker and sharper data processing for research, while also reducing costs and energy consumption through fewer needed components.
The upgrade allows astronomers using the LOFAR telescope to study the universe in finer detail, significantly enhancing their research capabilities.
By implementing 400G-ZR optics, SURF has streamlined its network, reducing components and complexities that can lead to failures.
