Zheng's house in Shang'ao Village was initially built in the design style of the 70s and 80s but had been unoccupied for a long time. In 2018, seizing the opportunity from the thriving homestay industry, he decided to reconstruct the house to serve as a homestay. The original building had structural issues and insecurities regarding its proximity to neighboring properties. A key requirement for the new design was to maximize the number of rooms while ensuring the overall concept of 'room' guided the design process effectively.
Zheng envisioned the reconstruction of his home in Shang'ao Village to serve both as a homestay and to stabilize the original structure, addressing flaws in design.
The original house, reflective of 70s and 80s rural design, had been vacant for years. Zheng aimed to revitalize it amidst a budding homestay industry.
Through reconstruction, Zheng aimed to improve room functionality while ensuring a cohesive design approach that prioritized the concept of 'room' in the overall layout.
The reconstruction of the house was motivated by a desire to generate revenue, improve stability, and resolve spatial conflicts with neighboring properties.
