Urban Cowboy Denver, a boutique hotel, reinvigorates the historic 1880s George Schleier Mansion in Capitol Hill, showcasing a blend of maximalism and historical reverence. Founders Jersey Banks and Lyon Porter led a thoughtful renovation, preserving vital architectural elements from Denver's Gilded Age. The mansion, a rare remnant of the Victorian boom, faced potential demolition; however, through collaboration with GBX Group and Historic Denver, they ensured its preservation. This project not only respects the past but also underscores the importance of adaptive reuse in maintaining the city’s rich architectural heritage.
"The building itself was kind of a masterpiece... details you can't recreate - hand-carving, original hardware, and coffered ceilings."
"This was a dream come true... to reimagine this historic mansion in my hometown."
"Urban Cowboy's expansion west demonstrates a commitment to Denver's built heritage... ensuring its long-term preservation through a historic easement agreement."
"Choosing to restore rather than rebuild, and placing heritage at the center of our vision, highlights the value of adaptive reuse."
