Syndal South Primary School / WHDA
Briefly

Syndal South Primary School's new Block A replaces an aging asbestos building with contemporary spaces including administrative offices, classrooms, and a publicly accessible library. The design integrates local architectural elements such as porches and verandahs, promoting both social interaction and focused learning. It features a pinwheel entry configuration for intuitive navigation, connecting key areas like the library and reception. The library serves dual purposes as a reading space and community hub, while classrooms blend open-plan concepts with traditional layouts, emphasizing accessibility and community engagement within the educational environment.
The design proposal aims to contextualise Block A in its suburban setting by incorporating familiar domestic archetypes of the front porch and the verandah into circulation spaces.
Public facing areas are scaled generously for social gathering, while learning spaces are porous and scaled intimately for focus, merging domestic and civic scales.
