The article describes a new social housing project for the elderly that repurposes demolition materials from an old school building. Due to urban planning issues, the existing three-story school was demolished, leading to a unique strategy known as urban mining, where the rubble was creatively reused in the new construction. Almost all demolition waste was utilized, with ceramic and concrete debris forming foundational elements and sandstone recycled into large blocks for walls. This innovative method not only enhanced sustainability but also allowed for quicker construction, demonstrating a resourceful approach to modern urban development.
The project employed urban mining, creatively using demolition materials from the original structure to construct a new building designed for social housing for the elderly.
The approach taken not only recycled materials on-site but also significantly reduced construction time by prefabricating blocks and effectively repurposing demolition waste.
