"The objective was to reflect on the relationship between the kitchen and the other spaces of the Duvivier-Byington house, a project by the Carioca architect Lucio Costa dated 1988, located in Rio de Janeiro. When the house was designed and built, the kitchen was a relatively small and closed environment. Over time, living patterns have transformed, and this space has come to occupy a central role in the dynamics of the house, becoming a place of great permanence, with various functions and a meeting point."
The work examines the relationship between the kitchen and other spaces in the Duvivier-Byington house by Lucio Costa (1988) in Rio de Janeiro. The original kitchen was relatively small and closed when the house was designed and built. Evolving living patterns turned the kitchen into a central place of permanence, hosting multiple functions and serving as a key meeting point within the home. The intervention seeks to adapt the kitchen’s role to contemporary household dynamics while engaging collaborators across coordination, lighting, civil engineering, metalwork, and architectural teams.
