The Energy House 2.0 project at the University of Salford has revealed that air source heat pumps can efficiently heat homes for just £1.84 a day under ideal conditions.
This groundbreaking research tested 14 different heating systems in advanced chambers, showing that continuous usage of electric systems like heat pumps is crucial for cost efficiency.
Professor Richard Fitton emphasized that the unique testing facilities at Salford allowed for rapid insights, which are critical in reducing carbon emissions from home heating.
Key improvements such as enhanced insulation and window quality were fundamental in achieving lower running costs for heat pumps, suggesting that homeowners must adapt their usage habits.
