Historic former school to become family homes after plan green-lit
Briefly

The Havering Council has approved a plan to convert Century Youth House on Albert Road into nine residential units, including eight three-bedroom homes and one two-bedroom unit. The project aims to address the housing shortage in Romford, preserving parts of the building's historic structure while providing new family homes. Despite concerns from local residents regarding traffic and privacy, the council believes the development will positively impact the area, especially since it maintains historical elements like the school's 1883 dedication plaque.
Habib Neshat, a planning officer, emphasized the rarity of family houses in central Romford, stating, 'We do not get many family houses in central Romford, which was a positive feature of the plans.'
A representative from Mercury Land Holdings stated, 'The historic building's look would be preserved,' ensuring that the iconic elements remain part of the new residential design.
