Future of Woodbine Mall, Fantasy Fair in jeopardy with redevelopment plans underway | CBC News
Woodbine Centre in Etobicoke has empty storefronts, unchanged signage for about four decades, dried water features, and a largely underused parking lot partly used to store tractor trailers. The mall’s Fantasy Fair indoor amusement park, featuring dinosaurs, carnival rides, and a mechanized train, continues to draw visitors and supports local nostalgia. Woodbine Mall Holdings Inc. struggled during the pandemic, entered bankruptcy, and in 2023 was placed into receivership by lender Romspen Investment Corporation. Receivership enabled recovery of outstanding loan payments through property ownership, and Romspen obtained ownership at the end of April. Romspen president Brent Forrest said redevelopment planning for the 51-acre site will take several years with community and city engagement.
