Empty pub dating back to 15th century could be restored to its former glory
Briefly

Highpride Properties Ltd has submitted a planning application to restore The Old Spotted Dog pub in Newham. Following an earlier approved hotel project that stalled, the new proposal focuses on the restoration of the building as a public house while incorporating residential apartments. The pub, a grade II listed structure and one of Henry VIII's former lodges, has faced severe deterioration due to vandalism and theft since its closure in 2004. The development aims to preserve historical elements and enhance the surrounding area with new landscaping and amenity spaces.
The current proposal seeks to restore the heritage asset as a public house for the whole building while replacing the previously proposed hotel with residential use.
The building has been squatted and vandalised on several occasions, and the theft of metal from the roof has "severely exacerbated the damage" to the property.
