Earth-Hugging Duke Plaza / Edge Architects
Briefly

The architectural project in Tianxin Village, Hainan, integrates a surf club, recreational facilities, dining, and lodging. It features a horizontally-designed structure with a dark gray steel framework and transparent polycarbonate cladding, mimicking a surfer's form. The layout clusters commercial and residential spaces and introduces a shaded V-shaped area linking an open plaza to tranquil woodland. Guest rooms feature designs for maximized natural light and views, culminating in a delicate interaction with their natural surroundings and minimizing the visual mass of the building.
The building's design evokes a shirtless surfer on a paddleboard, integrating various recreational, dining, and accommodation activities in a harmonious layout.
The V-shaped incision creates a shaded area that connects the outdoor plaza to the building, enhancing user experience and providing a seamless transition to nature.
