The transformation of Dragonfly Retreat & Cafe from a dilapidated warehouse showcases a deep commitment to sustainability, incorporating recycled materials that have their own stories. The design elements, ranging from reclaimed wood to vintage steel, create a coherent visual identity resonating with the local history and environment. Inspired by childhood memories of dragonflies, the architects aimed to evoke feelings of joy and freedom. By interweaving aspects of the past, including cultural symbols from the Champa kingdom, the retreat emerges as a harmonious blend of nostalgia and nature, inviting visitors to relax in its picturesque setting.
This project represents a transformative journey, revitalizing an abandoned warehouse into Dragonfly Retreat & Cafe, using recycled materials that tell unique stories of their past.
Each reused element, from rusty steel to silkworm cocoons, was intentionally selected to reflect not only sustainability but also to breathe new life into forgotten items.
Inspired by childhood memories of chasing dragonflies in rural Vietnam, the design aims to evoke joy and freedom through delicate aesthetics and striking visual identity.
The architectural vision incorporates local cultural symbols and the wild beauty of the land, merging the past and present to create a retreat full of serene charm.
