Borradill: a standout pair of vacation rentals on Scotland's West Coast
Briefly

Interior designer Claire Mookerjee renovated two early prefab timber-framed cabins in the Scottish Highlands, initially difficult to envision due to their dated interiors. Emphasizing sustainability and a blend of Scandinavian and Scottish design, Claire introduced modern design elements and eco-friendly features like solar panels and UV water filtration. Her design choices transformed the cabins into a serene vacation rental, aptly named Borradill, which now serves as a beautiful retreat for visitors year-round, showcasing a unique blend of rustic charm and contemporary aesthetics.
The two dwellings were assembled from Swedish pre-fabricated panels that arrived by boat and road, and finished with a Danish wood stain made from an age-old recipe: see Everything You Need to Know About Pine Tar.
It did take a bit of imagination to see what it could be, but fortunately, that comes naturally to Claire, who runs her own London studio, Mookerjee Design.
Claire focused on sustainable materials and finishes, outfitting the structures with their own UV water filtration systems and solar panels, so they're mainly off-grid.
Borradill, as the compound is known, is now newly complete as a vacation enclave: Claire and her family rent it out year-round.
