The Birkenstock campus will undergo transformation into a public space, enhancing existing structures. The Eames Institute has been active since its public announcement in 2022, initially based at a ranch in Petaluma. Significant acquisitions, such as William Stout Architectural Books and Lars Müller Publishers, aim to preserve key cultural artifacts. In 2024, operations moved to Richmond, where the Eames archive holds over 40,000 items from the Eames family. Exhibitions, both online and in-person, showcase curated collections accompanied by publications.
One of the big reasons that we're so interested in that site is its adaptive reuse. We're really focused on those existing two buildings and improving them.
