Casa Gruta, located in Valladolid's Sisal neighborhood, is a project by architects Salvador Román Hernández and Adela Mortera Villarreal. This architectural marvel mimics the essence of caves and cenotes, utilizing locally-inspired materials and dynamic shapes to evoke a sense of shelter. The design incorporates a sensory experience influenced by light and shadow, guiding visitors through spaces reminiscent of underground formations. Elements like a water body pay homage to Maya rituals, and the façade transitions in color with sunlight, reinforcing the connection between architecture, nature, and cultural heritage.
Casa Gruta transcends conventional residential architecture, embodying a unique blend of sculpture and nature that prompts reflection on space, time, and human experience.
The architects designed Casa Gruta to resonate with the geological landscape of Yucatán, offering a sensory journey through dynamic light, shadow, and natural materials.
