The fundamental moral wrongness of slavery is that it transforms people into objects that can be owned, thereby denying their personhood and intrinsic dignity.
Abuse and exploitation are not necessary or sufficient conditions for slavery; they can exist independently and, although compounding the wrongness, do not define slavery's essence.
