The article reflects on the author's decade-long experience as Secretary-Treasurer of the Pacific Division, emphasizing the importance of program diversity in academic conferences. They adopted program diversity as a central goal to enhance membership and align with evolving trends in the discipline at a time of declining membership across scholarly societies. Despite the national scrutiny on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, the Pacific Division has successfully embraced and promoted diversity, achieving significant progress guided by its members rather than solely top-down leadership.
The Pacific Division's emphasis on program diversity has been a collective effort rather than solely the result of my initiatives as Secretary-Treasurer.
As Secretary-Treasurer, I focused on program diversity, believing it would not only align with our discipline's direction but also enhance membership growth.
