Just War Theory and The Russia-Ukraine War
Briefly

The war against Ukraine is a wholly unprovoked war of aggression intended by those who initiated it—primarily Putin—to conquer Ukraine, annex its territory, and assimilate its population. This war does not meet the criteria for a just war, as there is no legitimate justification for Russia's invasion.
Many states that were ruled by Soviet puppet regimes during the Cold War have increasingly adopted elements of Western culture, particularly liberalism and democracy. Ukraine represented a potential example of a thriving democratic society that threatened to undermine the autocratic governance model prevalent in Russia.
The distinctions between the three wars being fought in Ukraine illustrate the complexity and the necessity of understanding the motivations behind each side's actions. It emphasizes that one sided view of the conflict misses critical evaluations of justice relating to warfare.
