In the 1970s, fewer than one in 10 writers were women, whereas by 2010, that had doubled to one in five. In 2022 it peaked at 25% - which means it's still under-indexing by half when compared to the general population.
During the 20th century, the average age of screenwriters was fairly constant, at around 44. However, after about 2005, it started to rise, going from 43.3 to 50.4 by 2023.
