'We will never lose him in our hearts or minds' - Siblings of Kilkenny man who died in Italy pay tribute to their brother
Briefly

During the eulogy at John's funeral mass today in St. Canice's Church on Dean Street in Kilkenny city, his brothers, Stephen and Michael, took a moment to thank the people of Sardinia who did everything they could to support the Bergin family in the hours leading up to and the hours and days following the discovery of John's body. "We want to thank the Sardinian people. Their support and help was truly amazing. They constructed a memorial for John in the main plaza in Iglesias and left flowers, poems and messages of support. They dedicated a mass to John in Iglesias that included musicians, singers and representatives of the different rescue agencies who all shared our grief."
It was John's sister Clare who started referring to her brothers as 'the fratelli', meaning brothers in Italian. 'When we arrived in Italy, our sister Clare started calling us 'the fratelli'," recalled Stephen and Michael. "This means brothers in Italian. We lost our youngest fratello, John, to a tragic accident in Sardinia but we will never lose him in our hearts or minds.'
