Siri Hustvedt to write a book about her late husband Paul Auster

Siri Hustvedt has begun writing a memoir titled Ghost Stories about her late husband, Paul Auster, shortly after his death, driven by an urgent need.

There is something about death that triggers in writers this impulse to write... that empty space creates an intimacy that doesn't exist in a live dialogue.

Writing about Auster, she expresses, 'I began writing the memoir about him and me, about us', feeling compelled to articulate her grief through words.

Hustvedt notes, 'It isn't that I wanted to write this book, but rather that I had an urgent need to write it', highlighting a response to personal loss.
