Miren Arzalluz has been appointed as the general director of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, succeeding Juan Ignacio Vidarte, who steps down after over 30 years.
The board of trustees emphasized Arzalluz's "proven international experience" and her alignment with the museum's mission to enhance the Basque Country's cultural landscape.
Juan Ignacio Vidarte's leadership has been notable, transforming Bilbao into a cultural tourism hub, highlighted by last year's record 1.3 million visitors.
Arzalluz holds a master's in art history and in comparative politics and previously directed an institution focused on the Basque language and contemporary culture.
