I was a bit taken aback by how normalized fireworks were in Texas. Instead of being treated with caution, they seemed to be a rite of passage.
During the Fourth of July celebrations, I didn’t expect that the fireworks we were enjoying could turn into a scene of chaos and severe injury.
The second firework flew directly at me, and in that split second before impact, I realized that this joyous celebration could lead to disaster.
As I lay there in shock, knowing I was injured, the reality of the night shifted from celebration to trauma in an instant.
