Leadership responsibilities will be assigned to senior U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, during the interim. María Corina Machado, main opposition leader and recent Nobel Peace Prize recipient, called for Edmundo González Urrutia to immediately assume the presidency and be recognized as Commander in Chief by the armed forces. Machado stated that opposition supporters are prepared to enforce that mandate.
