Snapchat previously halted advertisement sales to Russian and Belarusian media buyers after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Russian authorities have tightened internet control under President Vladimir Putin, using monitoring and traffic manipulation, banning noncompliant platforms, and intensifying restrictions since the war, including blocks on X, Facebook, Instagram, Signal and Viber, and disruptions to YouTube.
