A UN fact-finding committee has been requested to investigate the death of attorney Khosrow Alikordi. Alikordi, 46, was found dead in his Mashhad office on December 5; local officials ruled the death a heart attack and ruled out unnatural causes. Many lawyers, activists, and rights groups described the death as suspicious or possibly murder and called for an independent inquiry. Alikordi represented political prisoners and activists, endured imprisonment and professional bans, and faced nearly two decades of legal and security pressure. He had installed 16 cameras in his office; those cameras have been confiscated. His funeral in Sabzevar took place under tight security.
