"It was a painful decision,"
"But the uncertainty of who might be denied entry at the last minute because of something they 'liked' on social media made us feel that trying to bring an all-Irish theatre company to the U.S. was just too risky."
"Last January we did a cost comparison and found substantial savings in rehearsing the whole cast in Ireland and bringing that production to New York,"
An Ashland-born, Irish-rooted musical adapted from Tomáseen Foley stories will forgo an Ireland-first rehearsal and preview plan and will rehearse and open entirely in New York this fall. Escalating immigration screenings, rising visa costs, and unpredictable rulings made transporting an all-Irish company to the United States financially and artistically risky. Producers had planned to rehearse in Ireland to save on rental and health insurance costs and to preview in Cork after a successful Dublin premiere. Performances are scheduled for early November at Theatre Row, 410 W. 42nd St., with the production moving directly to New York.
