In April 2019, Patty Gasso, the Oklahoma softball coach, recognized Jocelyn Alo's struggles during her second season and temporarily benched her to reset mentally. Alo, who had previously excelled as a freshman, faced immense pressure and was affecting team morale. During her week off, Alo gained perspective by living like a regular student, which rejuvenated her passion for the game. She returned to hit a remarkable 85 home runs and ended her career as a two-time national champion and the all-time home run leader in Division I softball.
I didn't know how to deal with it. I felt it all fall and into the spring. I didn't want to play softball. I didn't enjoy showing up to practice.
As hard as I fought Patty on it, that was a monumental moment that shaped me and kind of propelled me into my success.
