Matthew Stehlin, a recent mechanical engineering graduate from Missouri University of Science and Technology, has begun a career with Intuitive, the company behind the da Vinci robotic surgery system that performed his mother's cancer surgery. After an enriching internship at Intuitive, he was hired as a RISE engineer, participating in a program that allows him to work across various company departments. Stehlin emphasizes the importance of continuous learning and skill diversification as he prepares for future challenges in his career, embodying the spirit of National Engineers Week 2025, "Design Your Future."
"Any time I can learn something new, I think of it like gaining experience points in a game. Each new skill helps me level up, making me more effective in real-life challenges."
"A little over a year ago, when I heard the doctor planned to use a da Vinci system, I thought the company that developed it, called Intuitive, would be somewhere I wanted to check out."
