Briefly

In a recent interview, Melinda Gates revealed the lasting impact of a toxic relationship from her college years on her body image. She discussed how her boyfriend's focus on her appearance made her self-conscious, causing her to internalize negative messages about her body. Although she struggled with these feelings into her 30s, Gates shared that she began to embrace self-acceptance in her 40s. Now at 60, she emphasizes health over perfection and advocates for mental peace, while also focusing on setting a positive example for her daughters regarding self-love and body image.
Gates stated, "I would say that carried through with me into my 20s and even into my 30s, and it wasn't, probably, until I got to 40 that I got more OK with who I was."
Melinda Gates shared, "It really is not OK" about how her college boyfriend's focus on her appearance affected her self-image.
"When you release yourself from a sense of perfectionism around weight and body image, you have so much more mind space and peace," Gates said.
Gates emphasized, "I also got to a point where I realized that I was role modeling for my daughters; it was really important that I work on this in myself."
