Left-handers may have competitive advantage over right-handed people
"Left-handedness has long been associated with having advantages in some sports, but psychologists at the University of Chieti-Pescara, in Italy, set out to understand whether this really is the case, and if so, what is driving it. They began by gathering data from more than 1,100 volunteers who completed detailed online questionnaires measuring hand preference, motivational drive and a range of personality traits."
"This edge is now believed to be linked to higher competitiveness among left-handed people, and may help explain why left-handedness has persisted through human evolution, despite right-handers making up almost 90 per cent of the population."
Research from the University of Chieti-Pescara in Italy examined whether left-handedness provides competitive advantages and what drives these advantages. Psychologists gathered data from over 1,100 volunteers who completed online questionnaires measuring hand preference, motivational drive, and personality traits. The study calculated each participant's Laterality Quotient, a score indicating how strongly a person favors one hand over the other. Results reveal that left-handed people exhibit stronger competitiveness traits compared to right-handers. This psychological edge may explain the evolutionary persistence of left-handedness, despite left-handers representing only approximately 10.6 percent of the population. The findings support long-standing associations between left-handedness and advantages in certain sports.
