Claire Steels, a cyclist for Movistar, sustained a facial trauma but avoided severe injuries after a crash during a sprint at the Vuelta a Extremadura Femenina. Following the incident, she reported severe shoulder pain but later reassured fans via Instagram, noting her positivity despite visible bruising. The crash occurred at the end of a 90km stage, and she was declared safe after examinations. Although she finished the stage, she did not compete in stage 2, ending a series of races for the season.
"After her crash yesterday, Claire Steels has a facial trauma with no bone or neurological effects," the team said.
"Nothing broken just bruised, battered, swollen, a bit sad and incredibly lucky!" Steels wrote in her Instagram update.
