Generational perceptions of money vary significantly, with millennials expressing deep financial insecurity. Comparisons to the financial stability of previous generations, like Boomers, evoke frustration. Millennial individuals often feel exhausted after years of hard work without tangible benefits, questioning their financial adequacy. Cultural narratives suggest that hard work should lead to success, yet many find this untrue, especially in creative and independent pursuits. Dining with peers often leads to shared fears about financial anxieties, reinforcing communal feelings of insecurity among millennials.
As a millennial, financial insecurity has been a theme in my life for a while. But recently, it's grown louder, and I literally can't stop asking: WHERE IS THE GODDAMN MONEY?
After 15 years of working non-stop, I'm exhausted. And there are days when I ask myself: is it really meant to be this way or am I just failing?
Millennial women like myself were told to work hard and follow our passion. Because if you work hard and find something you're good at, it'll pay off. It doesn't, though.
