'Bachelor' Alum Bekah Martinez Explains Why She Stopped Shaving Her Legs 7 Years Ago
Briefly

Bekah Martinez has candidly shared her journey with body hair acceptance after stopping shaving seven years ago. Following negative comments about her leg hair, she expressed the emotional struggle from teasing in childhood, which reinforced beliefs that body hair was wrong. She stopped shaving during pregnancy to set an example for her children, demonstrating that body hair is normal. Despite still feeling embarrassed in some situations, she recognizes that her acceptance has grown, especially when her daughter sees her body hair without shame.
I started sneaking my mom's razor in 3rd grade. I remember praying to God that he'd remove all my hair from the neck down. My family, friends and even teachers and coaches would gently tease when any of my jet black leg stubble was growing out.
I wanted my daughter (and my future sons) to see that hair on a woman's body is normal. Not shameful. Not gross. It wasn't just for my kids. It was for me. I wanted to consciously work through the disgust I had in my natural body.
But the feeling has so much less power over me than it used to. And when Ruth points and says, 'Mom, my legs look like yours,' without an ounce of shame, it is all worth it.
