"I used to sell my grapes to a cooperative, but this year they refused me. We feel abandoned. It's revolting," Ferreira expressed regarding his struggles.
"Sales of Douro table wines are rising, but those of port wines - which are more profitable - have fallen steadily due to changing consumer habits," experts noted.
"Port wine, invented by the British in the 18th century, became one of Portugal's most famous exports but is now facing declining global consumption," the report highlighted.
"The volume of port wine sold annually has fallen over the last 15 years by a quarter, reflecting shifting preferences in wine consumption globally," analysts found.
