At one South Bay winery, eggs are in for winemaking but corks are out for bottling

Nat Wong of Blade & Talon recommends 2022 Ruche from Calleri Vineyard, known for clove, cinnamon, and red plum notes, and the 2022 Blade & Talon Rose Madder with its carmine hue and blend of cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet Pfeffer, and Aglianico.
Alamitos Vineyards' Andorinha Touriga and Umunhum Touriga Porto scored 92 and 93 points respectively, while the 2023 Laura's Love Rose was a gold medal winner. The vineyard, led by winemaker George Troquato, is expanding production with a focus on sauvignon blanc, Syrah, and Touriga Nacional.
Ryan Beauregard of Beauregard Vineyards opts for Stelvin closure for all 2022 wines, including the high-end cabernet sauvignon, eliminating corks. He experiments with aging in concrete egg for the 2023 Rose of Pinot Noir and carbonic pinot noir, following the summer trend. Winemaker Kamee Knutson at Talbott Vineyards introduces steel elements to the wine lineup.
