Near-death experiences (NDEs) can significantly alter a person's perspective on life and work. Our study interviewed 14 individuals who had NDEs following severe medical incidents. The findings revealed that many participants felt a deepened sense of purpose, leading them to seek out meaningful work that positively impacts others. The experiences prompted a reevaluation of what constitutes success and motivated individuals to avoid engaging in work they viewed as trivial or unworthy after facing death.
Doing meaningful work is now a priority for many who have experienced NDEs, showing a shift towards valuing purpose over conventional success.
Participants from our study expressed a profound realization that life is brief and must be spent on pursuits that truly matter to them.
