John Mueller from Google emphasized that merging content into fewer URLs poses greater challenges compared to simply moving a website from one domain to another. In a discussion on Bluesky, he stressed the importance of allowing time for Google to process these changes. In response to an example from the SEO community about URL redirection, Mueller noted that Google can still display old URLs in search results even after merging, highlighting the intricacies involved in content migration and the distinct cache mechanisms at play. For a smoother transition, he recommended migrating an entire site at once.
Merging is always a bit more challenging than a simple site-move. I'd just give it time.
Even with a site-move, if you explicitly look for the old URL, it'll show it to you even a long time later.
Moving your full site at once speeds the migration progress for Google Search.
Google has pretty detailed documentation on site moves and URL changes, so check those out.
