Amazon will stop paying developers for making Alexa skills
Briefly

Amazon is discontinuing the payouts more than seven years after it started paying developers in 2017. The company gave developers a $100 monthly credit to AWS and additional payments based on the popularity of their skills. The move comes as Amazon shifts its focus to newer AI tools.
Amazon's decision to sunset the payment programs is in line with the company's recent cutbacks in its Alexa division. The focus is now on utilizing large language model tools to improve Alexa's capabilities. Less than 1% of developers were still using the reward programs.
Lauren Raemhild from Amazon emphasized that the old payment programs were meant to support newer developers but have now reached their end. The company encourages developers to explore in-skill purchases as an alternative revenue source.
