The ongoing issues with text highlighting in recent Chromium-based browsers stem from changes in selection styling that conflict with Tailwind CSS. Users report mixed functionalities, like lack of visual indicators when selecting text.
Affected users can still select, copy, and paste text, but the absence of a visual indicator makes it challenging. Some sites, including The Verge and Bloomberg, have yet to implement necessary fixes.
The change seems to originate from Chrome 131's new behavior, where selection properties are now inherited from parent elements instead of directly from the selected elements.
Adam Wathan from Tailwind has proposed a workaround for developers, though widespread implementation of this fix might take time, leaving many sites, including popular ones, still affected.
