Police noted that Buehler's case is part of a troubling trend, as professional athletes in California have increasingly become targets for theft, especially for high-end watches.
On the same day as Buehler's incident, two other watch thefts occurred at the Santa Anita Park, underscoring the vulnerability of individuals in crowded places.
Earlier in August, 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall was robbed at gunpoint of his Rolex watch, marking another example of organized crime targeting athletes.
