Verizon's Straight Talk Wireless has debuted vending machines in Walmart for customers to buy smartphones without the hassle of salespeople. The machines feature a touchscreen interface for browsing iPhones and Android devices, allowing instant purchases. Notably, the phones come pre-activated, alleviating the common frustration of post-purchase activation. This initiative addresses customer confusion about phone setups and reduces calls for customer service. With plans to expand to nearly 100 additional locations, these machines aim to streamline the buying process and enhance overall customer satisfaction.
A lot of our customers, they get confused with what to do at home. It drives calls to care. It drives customer dissatisfaction.
Even if potential customers aren't ready to buy, they can use the machines to see what phone and plan deals are available without needing to wait on a sales rep.
So far, the new machines are installed in five Walmart stores, where they've sold hundreds of phones after thousands of interactions.
Verizon plans to add them at nearly 100 more Walmart locations over the course of the year.
