Apple is rumored to release a new 27-inch display with Mini LED backlighting by late 2025 or early 2026, enhancing contrast, black levels, and brightness. The upgrade aims to address the shortcomings of its current Studio Display, which, despite offering excellent sharpness and color accuracy, has been criticized for poor backlighting and issues like backlight bleed. The new display may also feature improvements to its built-in camera, which previously received a firmware update to enhance clarity. The anticipated upgrades justify the monitor's premium starting price of $1,599.
Switching to Mini LED would further improve the monitor's uniformity while making blacks look darker when watching videos.
The purported follow-up to 2022's Studio Display would leave the monitor's size unchanged but offer meaningful gains in contrast, black levels, and (potentially) overall brightness.
