'She was just a natural.' High school coach reflects on Diana Taurasi's career
Briefly

Diana Taurasi, now a basketball legend, began her journey as a promising young athlete in Chino, California. Initially drawn to soccer like her father, Mario Taurasi, she ultimately became passionate about basketball, receiving her first college offer in eighth grade. After triumphing in NCAA championships, WNBA championships, and Olympic golds, she announced her retirement. Her high school coach, Larry Webster, reminisced about her impactful career at Don Lugo High School, emphasizing her natural talent, exceptional skills, and how she helped elevate the school's basketball reputation.
From the very beginning, I was excited to have her. We started slow, but I think it was by the second game that she broke loose. Her high school career saw some pretty amazing scoring events.
I wasn't around girls' basketball much at that time, so before meeting her, I had no idea who Diana Taurasi was or how to pronounce her last name. But she was just a natural.
At the time, Don Antonio Lugo High School was not a basketball powerhouse or known for girls' basketball, but she helped put the school on the map for basketball.
Her one weakness, if you could call it that, was that she wasn't the fastest person, but she certainly understood how to play the game and is a much better defensive player than people think.
