Jason Isaacs designed Lucius Malfoy's character look in the Harry Potter series, including his outfit and long blonde hair. After discussions with the hair and makeup department and costume designers, Isaacs determined that Lucius was an aristocrat, not a businessman. He even proposed using a cane that concealed his wand. His long hair became an essential part of the character's identity, allowing him to naturally embody Malfoy's characteristics. Isaacs also discussed his new role in The White Lotus, where he plays Timothy Ratliff, involved in an embezzlement scheme while vacationing abroad.
I was thinking I could have a cane, and my wand would come out of the cane, Isaacs recalls telling the stunned director.
I loved my long hair because it gave me character, Isaacs says. The only way to keep it straight was to tilt my head back.
