Arizona State University dismissed women's basketball coach Natasha Adair after three seasons of lackluster performance, marked by an overall record of 29-62 and a disappointing 7-47 in conference play. The decision follows a particularly tough season in which the team finished 10-22 and ended 3-15 in their Big 12 debut. This move comes as Arizona State last participated in the NCAA tournament in 2019, highlighting a decline in the women’s basketball program's competitiveness. Athletic director Graham Rossini announced the immediate start of a national search for her replacement.
"We appreciate coach Natasha Adair's leadership and professionalism in guiding Sun Devil women's basketball over the past three seasons," Arizona State athletic director Graham Rossini said in a statement.
Adair was hired in 2022 to replace the retiring Charlie Turner Thorne after spending the previous five seasons at Delaware. Arizona State struggled to gain traction under Adair, finishing 8-20 in her first season.
Adair went 29-62 overall and 7-47 in conference play after losing to Iowa State in the second round of the Big 12 tournament Thursday.
Arizona State last made the NCAA tournament in 2019, marking a significant decline in the program's success after Adair took over.
