The White House has withdrawn the nomination of Jared Isaacman for NASA administrator just before his Senate confirmation vote. According to spokesperson Liz Huston, the next NASA leader must align with President Trump's America First agenda. Isaacman, a long-time collaborator with SpaceX, highlighted his commitment to sending American astronauts to Mars during his hearing. However, he clarified that plans for a lunar landing would take priority, leading to tension during discussions with the Senate's Commerce Committee, particularly with Democratic members.
"It's essential that the next leader of NASA is in complete alignment with President Trump's America First agenda and a replacement will be announced directly by President Trump soon."
Isaacman stated he would "prioritize sending American astronauts to Mars," but clarified that a lunar landing would take precedence over a Mars mission.
