Checking in on a few key Nationals' youngsters down in the minors
"At this rate, it wouldn't be a far cry to see the rangy infielder snag a cup of coffee at Double-A some point this season. There's no reason for opportunities not to be made available in the minor leagues; it's just hard to fit new faces into D.C.'s bloated MLB clubhouse."
Devin Fitz-Gerald, a 20-year-old infielder, was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2024 and is now with the Washington Nationals organization. He won four straight high school championships at Stoneman Douglas High School under his father’s guidance. In 30 High-A games in 2026, he has a 1.099 OPS and has shown growing power with 10 home runs. He is a switch-hitter and has already homered from both sides of the plate in the same game. Despite the strong start, he is still developing and is not expected to reach MLB soon because Washington has many young players already at the big league level. A promotion to Double-A could happen earlier than an MLB debut.
