A woman was stabbed in Washington D.C. on Wednesday while National Guard troops dined directly across the street. The victim, whose identity has not been released to the public, was stabbed on the 700 block of H Street Northeast around 3:47 p.m., according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
Despite the guard's baffling proximity to the violence, the suspect, who MPD officials said goes by the name Candy, successfully eluded arrest. She was last seen on foot, moving east from the location of the stabbing. The suspect had a black ponytail and was wearing a blue dress, white shoes, a hat, and a dark colored purse, said police.
President Donald Trump deployed the National Guard earlier in August to address crime in the nation's capital. Troops from DC itself, as well as five other states, were sent to the Capitol. Trump also named Terry Cole, the head of the Drug and Enforcement Administration, to take control of the city's Metropolitan Police Department.
